Look who came to dinner!
Bob shucked corn kernels off several ears of dried corn and created a buffet for the deer. We backed away from the buffet and, in less than a minute, I snapped this blip. The little one nearest the camera is Rascaletta. The one next to her looks even more in need of some TLC. That one is pretty scrawny. The third one in line appears to be a young buck. I think he has tiny little antler buds on his head.
When I first saw Rascaletta this afternoon, about 45 minutes earlier, she was resting on the ground and blended so well with her surroundings I almost didn't spot her. I walked on for awhile and, when I returned to her resting spot, she was still there with one other deer nearby. Later, when Bob got there with the food, she had wandered quite a distance away, but we tracked her down and spread the buffet.
Now that the weather is colder, snow flakes have begun to fly. You can see them on the three little deer. The time of year has arrived when the deer come out of the deep woods and look with interest at the walkers, hoping for a tasty treat. We aren't encouraged to feed them, but we feed the little ones anyway.
