Lancaster lion ....

This is a bit of old Lancaster that few people notice. It is up at the castle on a water fountain installed to mark Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. I guess it was a good gift to Lancaster folk to give them fresh water. Better than the many communal pumps that were still seen in many of the yards, courts and alleys photographed there in the 1920s by a brilliant gent - Sam Thompson!
