Belonging

Spent the day interviewing 9 bright shiny young people all wanting to move here and belong to our academic community. Lovely to hear their passion for their subjects, although a tiring day by the end of it.
I was lifted by going to the celebrations marking the end of a big European research project looking at citizenship in south east Europe. We saw films the team had made, exploring ideas of citizenship, identity and belonging, had a good chat with them all and a lovely dinner. Apart from losing my voice again (too much chat!) it was great. This image, of the former Yugoslavia and separate countries it has become, was taken from one of the films.
