Almost home!
The day started off by waking at 6:00am (UK time) in Blackburn (10pm SD time) and heading down to Manchester airport to catch the 11:00am flight down to heathrow. Got stuck in traffic around the m61/m60
interchange but other than that smooth sailing, dropping off rental, checking in and getting through to the gate. My bag was 2kg over the limit but they didn't seem to mind.
Arrived in London at midday (4am SD time) after a short 45 min hop down from Manc and had 3.5 hours to kill before the flight to SD. Spent that doing some shopping for the wife and eating a wagamamas (very reasonably priced for airport food - don't think they marked up the menu which was a nice change). Flight was slightly delayed by 45min or so but we were soon off and away at 4pm (9am SD time). I'd paid for the emergency exit row again so plenty of leg room. Watched a few movies and listened to some music. Dozed a little but didn't drug myself like on the way out.
After 11 hours of flying we were in the decent having come over northern Canada, just south of Calgary and over the Rockies and down the western side of the US. We descended along the coast and I could pick out all the places - camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Carlsbad and this blip over solana beach/del mar. Arrived at 7:05pm SD time (3:05am UK time)
Upon landing turned on both work and personal phones. Had been left cryptic voicemails asking to call a colleague. Turns out there is a full rep opportunity available but back at the university so not that interested.
Got through immigration quickly, going in the permanent resident/citizen line and using green card for first time. Even if a load of British soldiers were allowed to cut infront of me - I'll let them off.
Got picked up by the wife and dog and soon back to la jolla and a quick shower and ready for bed at 9pm (5am UK time). All in all a 23 hour day.....
