bucks life

Lovely girls

After fielding a few work emails in bed, I headed over to the church at 10.30am to meet J for one of our rota cleans. I did the chancel and it really does look nice all dusted, polished and hoovered.

Unfortunately, sheep from neighbouring Castle Field got into the churchyard last weekend and ate many of the grave flowers (whoops). One of the congregants hadn't noticed he'd stepped in some sheep poo and had then walked it through the church. J spent quite a bit of time today on her hands and knees trying to get rid of it from the carpet. It was very much ground in so she's made the best of a bad job. It's obvious who it was as the footsteps end at a particular chair! I bet he has no idea a valiant volunteer has cleaned up after him and will probably never know he has someone to be grateful to.

I then had to dye my hair as my ever more greying roots were more than I could bear today. After dropping the concert tickets down to DB, I headed over to Bedford for 2pm where S and I wandered down to a sweet independent coffee shop on Castle Road and sat in the sun enjoying an iced latte and catching up. I haven't seen her for several weeks. So today we really were 'ladies who lunch', something we had always aspired to over 20 years ago when we shared a house and started out in our first jobs after college... What a great position to be in after all these years. I'm so pleased that we have remained firm friends too.

Just as we had planned a walk along the river, she got a call to pick E up from school as she was feeling unwell so we did that and headed home. E picked up a bit and my blip is of her and her friend G in their school uniforms being wonderful, happy go lucky 11 year olds. S and I sat out in the garden with warm sunshine on our shoulders in true John Denver fashion, chewing the fat discussing work colleagues, extensions and holidays. Just lovely.

I headed home about 5pm and enjoyed the beautiful scenery on the way. It was 16C. I found that the lodger who'd said he'd be away for the rest of the week is in fact home but he's offered to cook tea again so I'll forgive him. Oh and there's an injured blackbird in the garden with a wonky wing. We think he hit a window last night. Not sure what to do with it as it can hobble about but not fly very well so I've left it for now. I feel a bit helpless...
