Pre-history
Today was the day for a 13 mile prewalk in the wilds north of Hadrian's Wall. It's a cracking walk - if you like the wildness of the area - but it did rain all morning. We had the prospect of better weather later and the sun that appeared mid afternoon was very welcome.
I had with me Alistair and Colin, pictured here, providing scale for a recently discovered cup marked stone near Goatstones Farm. Also with us was Phil, a keen amateur archaeologist, who has been involved in the survey work in this area. They have found signs of burial cists in what seems to be a designated burial site. His enthusiasm for ancient stones was infectious.
Detail of the stone may be seen here.
I just had an iPhone with me and the pictures took about 3 hours to send by email last night, hence the late blip.
PS Very tired after this walk, but will recover!
