The only thing really growing on the farm at the moment are these Oats, planted for grazing in the winter. I've decided that they must be drought free Oats!

Seriously, things are very dry - with very little grass growth (and rain) in the past month. We dried off another 20 cows today - that's now 20% of our total herd dried off. These cows won't be milked again until they calve sometime from August to October.

Tomorrow we have a truck and trailer of grape waste arriving from Blenheim. Apparently the cows love it, but we will be mixing it with silage so the cows don't get drunk!

So now we are praying for rain, not only to help our Oats grow, but also for the grass to grow for our remaining milking cows and for feed in the winter. Fingers crossed it rains soon.
