Today's Shakespeare Challenge is 'Shylock'... in ‘The Merchant of Venice’,
He is a Jewish moneylender who earns his living by charging interest on money he loans (like modern banks). He is verbally abused and bullied by most characters in the play and is called cruel names including "villain with a smiling cheek, cut-throat dog, bloody creditor, damned inexorable dog". Shylock is an astute businessman and is aware of other people's concerns.
"If a Jew wrong a Christian, what is his humility? Revenge. If a Christian wrong a Jew, what should his sufferance be by Christian example? Why, revenge. The villany you teach me, I will execute, and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction."
