Today's the day ........................... for a little star

It's definitely a good year for Magnolias.

It's probably because it's been a relatively mild spring with no really severe frosts. There's a Magnolia tree that I can see from our back garden. It's must be very old because it's a big tree - and it is absolutely covered in white flowers.

This is the only one that we have in our garden - a much smaller, slow-growing shrub - of Magnolia stellata, sometimes called the star magnolia. It is native to Japan and it has these large, showy white flowers before its leaves open.

It likes to be centre-stage, in the spotlight .............................
