Wednesday Emergency Blip
This cute little long tailed tit came to my rescue when I was staring out of the window hoping for inspiration.
Along it came in the form of this little ball of feathers, who has the longest tail of any British bird in proportion to its body. They normally arrive in a gang, like excited school children and we can hear them all chattering at once, trying to get a chirp in. This little chap was all on his own this evening though. It was starting to get dusk, so I imagine he was having a bit of a feed before bed-time to help him through the night.
Two interesting things about them:-
1. They weave spiders' webs into their nests of feathers and moss and lichen; this makes the nest more elastic, and it stretches to accommodate their growing family (now wouldn't that be handy?).
2. They're actually not tits at all, but they belong to the Aegithalidae family.
Today is my Friday - I'm not working Thursday or Friday - so maybe I can get out and about and get a shot of something more interesting tomorrow. Not that he's not interesting of course - they're one of my favourites in the garden.
