The Storm of the Year!
It didn't just rain all day today - it POURED consistently nearly all morning and afternoon. By the evening, the wind picked up and was howling - so much so that by the time I arrived home after work, the power in our entire neighborhood was out. Palm fronds and eucalyptus branches could be found scattered all over the street in front of our place.
I went to work lighting candles - luckily I just busted out a bunch of Christmas candles over the weekend from storage - and then attempted to make a simple dinner in the almost dark.
R was pleased that he had a really good excuse to go to bed around 7:30 p.m. but I couldn't go to bed THAT early. So I attempted to read by candlelight - it seemed appropriate since I'm currently reading a biography of Abraham Lincoln . . . that's probably how he studied law deep into the night in his office (or maybe by lantern?).
I got through a few pages and realized that my eyes were straining too much - so I gave up and went to bed.
Nights like this when you realize how much you love the convenience of electricity!
