Programming a Washing Machine!

As part of one of my university modules I have been set a piece of coursework in which we have to program a washing machine controller using Microsoft Visual Studio.

I've spent several days on it now and it is certainly no closer to becoming a reality - the user interface has been laid out and I've completed most of the relevant documents but the actual programming has not begun yet!
