Why run?

This is my last training run before the Brighton Marathon on Sunday.

I feel in pretty good shape. My Garmin tells me I have run 500km since Jan 1st plus some gym sessions, swimming, loads of walking and more recently tennis. I've managed to stay injury free and not been ill. Other than the odd slip I've been pretty good with my diet and overall pretty dedicated.

I've lost almost a stone in this period, which definitely helps and I feel I'm at my ideal running weight. Even though this will be my 15th marathon you still feel that mix of excitement and nerves, of wanting it to be over and of savouring the moment and the pressure which you put on yourself and wanting to not let down other people or the charity I am running for.

I might look a bit serious in this picture but I am thinking of all these things as I focus on the race and what I want to achieve. There are many things written about why people run. The answer I most identify with is that 'one day I won't be able to' and very much believe in making the most from life and every opportunity you can.
