Long day today, got up early and was picked up for a surf trip out to Fairbourne (near Dolgellau) for a day's surfing.

When we got there the surf was great, solid 3-4ft set waves and clean faces. It was hammering down with rain, sometimes so hard it was difficult to see however, we had the break pretty much to ourselves all day, which is not that common on good surf days in this country.

I only get to surf a couple of times a year and this was a great session. Well worth the 3 hour journey each way.

I suspect waves like this don't often come in the summer to this part of Wales, so there is an upside for all the bad weather systems we've had lately.

In the afternoon, the tide dropped and the wind shifted onshore and the waves lost their shape, but we were exhausted and aching so were ready for home.
