The Boy!
Eventually got home this morning! The garage that the RAC were supposed to be contacting actually rang us while we were having breakfast, so a good job we didn't spend all night in the car waiting for them!
Poor Ollie was so happy to see us, but somewhat subdued too. At the weekend he'd been attacked by a dog which we walk past regularly but is usually fenced in. B & J, who have been looking after Ollie while we were away and are in their late 60s/early 70s, were going by with him when it rushed out, rolled him onto the ground and started laying into him.
It wasn't wearing a collar so they couldn't get a hold of it and Ollie was screaming and terrified. Eventually they did pull it off and J shouted at Ollie to run, which he did, bless him. The owner then came out and apologised and took his dog inside.
B & J cleaned Ollie up and took him to the vet who said his long fur saved him from more serious injuries, he's just got skin wounds, and she gave him antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. All three of them were obviously very shaken by the whole experience, even now days later.
Mike knows the dog from his post round and says it has bitten people as well, when the folk used to live further south on the island. They have offered to pay Ollie's vet bills, but why would you keep a dog you cannot control?
This shot makes him look as though he's lost a leg, but that's my poor photographic skills rather than anything worse - thankfully! I am in the process of getting turned round and hope to catch up with everyone soon. We had a really super holiday and it was great seeing everything but it is so good to be home, the three of us together again!
