Diary of an Edinburgher

Don't mention the weather...

Hit the ground running this morning - washing done, hung up on pulley (I won’t mention the weather, but thank goodness for the pulley) and meanwhile I rang Virgin Media and said I didn’t want the phone they sent me. I have not grown to love it, I’m afraid. And while the GPS has proved useful a couple of times - so are maps. I do not want access to all my spam email coming in all day. I don’t want to Twitter or Facebook or blip on a phone. I don't want to have my music on it. I don't want to take photos and send them to folk. I can’t even do selfies on this one! AND the battery life is useless.

Also, I feel I’m being invaded by all these ‘smart’ appliances - 'smart' TV, 'smart' phone - even the radiators are 'smart' and turn off when they think they should turn off - which might not be when I think they should turn off...

My To Do list today:

Pop in to Travel Agent to check on plane tickets.
Get knees X-rayed.
Buy new comfy walking shoes/trainers.
Inform bank that we’re in another country for two weeks.
Buy new handset for JR.
Get diarrhoea pills.
Soup for lunch.

All done. I couldn't see the Castle. Oh no, I wasn't going to mention the weather...

Popped in to get my knees X-rayed. A nice young man, Brian, bustled around busying himself with his big X ray machinery, setting my knee just so.

‘I think you’ve got a great job,’ I shouted at him behind the glass.

‘Yes!’ he said in a lovely Irish accent, ‘I love it! I love knees especially!!’

‘What’s so good about knees?’

‘Well, it’s hard to get a really good lateral shot. When you get a good one it’s great!’

He was pleased with mine. He has to stay down in the X-ray department, in the bowels of the building, on his own, so he loves having visitors patients. He does his studying when there are no visitors patients.

We’re off tomorrow! So all will be revealed then. I hope to be able to blip every day, but don’t think they will have wifi in some of the places we’ll be going.

A tent is involved. And a ride on a large animal … Eeek!
