Lumberjills of Dalby Forest
After a morning of sorting out accommodation for the 'Race the Castles' event in October. We will be orienteering at Edinburgh,Stirling and also for the first time ever Balmoral castles - an event not to be missed! I then felt the need to clear the head with some fresh air.
The road bike is awaiting delivery of some parts so out came the mountain bike and I headed off into Dalby Forest. As I plodded up the hill on the way home spotted this sculpture which is by Ray Lonsdale and commemorates the work of Lumberjills in World War II. From a distance I thought it was made from wood but on closer inspection it is made of metal.
This poem was on a nearby plinth:
"Yes you're very clever
now pack in and get down.
You are here to be a Lumberjill,
not a circus clown.
We need to get a move on
and the blade bites if you rush.
And for the love of god remember
to pull and never push.
