Patience is a virtue
I was potting some small ferns this afternoon in a nice bark compost so thought another fern Blip wouldn't go amiss. This little fella is Black Spleenwort, or more scientifically Asplenium adiantum-nigrum. The species is a British native but the spores that produced this little cluster came from Cyprus.
We were told of a wonderful waterfall that we shouldn't miss, the Caledonia Falls. Mmm, rather an optimistic name, I think. It may be one of the highest falls in Cyprus, but in Scotland it would probably pass unnoticed. There were huge numbers of stray cats in the area, as there are all over Cyprus. This fern was growing in a crack in the rock beside the fall, so I nicked a spore-bearing frond and 5 years later, here it is! It's growing in a 3" pot inside a Yeo Valley yoghurt tub - the lid was kept on all those years!
