Paella Anyone?
Paella pans in the Mercado de San Miguel, Madrid. Here on visa business arriving on the AVE just before 9am from Barcelona, and, later, welcomed Busboy for the start of his Spanish holiday with us.
The day will be remembered for the worst ever taxi driver and ride in our combined lives coming in from the airport with Busboy. The guy charged an illegal supplement, was unhappy because we didn't have luggage to put in his boot for a higher fee, refused to turn down the thumping electro-music on the radio and when I tried to swivel the 'occupied' sign out of my line of vision, he screeched the taxi to a halt from 70 miles an hour on the motorway inside a tunnel with traffic whizzing past and started shouting at me at the top of his voice as he rearranged his sign. Dd thought I was going to get thumped! I just thought we were going to be tossed out and abandoned on the motorway! He looked and sounded as if he was going to have a heart attack, before we screeched off again. Dd thought complete non-reaction on my part would be the better part of valour and so we all sat there in silence like three stooges for the next 30 minutes until we eventually arrived. So, a memorable start to our adventure in Madrid!
