This is Australia!
I had another opportunity to walk along the river and through the old part of Parramatta this morning and I was delighted to see a another group of fairly elderly chinese people doing Tai Chi. This time it was also in the most beautiful setting. They were in the grounds of the St Johns Anglican Cathedral Church and surrounded and shaded by some very old and majestic trees.
It made me reflect on how lucky we are to live in this country and just how much we have benefited from people wanting to come from overseas to live here. I started to do some delving into our immigration history and it's astonishing to know that since the end of the war in 1945 over 7 million people have come to Australia to settle.
There was an illustration on the website of a poster that was published throughout Great Britain in 1928 promoting Australia to British Men and Women. I don't think they would get away with it these days!!
THE SOUTHERN CROSS -
The stars that shine over Australia - the land of opportunity.
The call of the stars to British Men and Women
* Men for the land
*Women for the home
*Employment guaranteed
*Good wages
*Plenty of opportunity
By the way, this Tai Chi is catching on - I found a wonderful feathered variety also practising his/her skills on the river this morning. It's definitely worth looking at this one on my Blipfolio!!
