The life of trees...
Have you ever wondered 'who' planted a tree, especially old gnarled Oaks that are not indigenous to our country but come from Europe. Oaks can live for up to nine hundred years, but here in South Africa it never gets cold enough in the winter, so they get rotten in the middle and their lifespan is reduced . This gracious old girl stands proudly, she lost another few branches in the last storm. I love her old weathered trunk, all the patterns and pictures.
The first vines were planted in 1659 on Groot Constantia ..I wonder what year she was put into the ground?
