This is Evie, almost a month old today.

I wasn't going to place a bet on the Grand National but my daughters were making selections at lunch time, so I decided to have a go. I applied my usual scientific selection technique and picked Pineau De Re, as it has my initials in the name. When I got home I logged on to a famous online bookie and placed my bet £5 each way at 33-1

I then settled down to watch the race and was delighted when my namesake won. I logged back on - to find that there had been a problem with my credit card, which had expired since I last placed a bet. So my bet hadn't registered.

And the moral of the story is?

Oh, and Coventry City lost too. I wonder what will be number three.

UPDATE - amazingly, it seems the bookies have upheld my complaint and I've won £216 (subject to confirmation.)
