The Year of the Monkey

My monkey friend is very accommodating when I need a still life prop.
Today I wanted to take a photo and have the background black. I don't have the umbrella, or the lightsync equipment doodad shown on the video.

The directions are:
Put camera on manual, set aperture, iso, shutter speed so that when you take a photo the picture shows up black. Then you are to set up umbrella and light that syncs with your shot. Enough light will affect photo so your subject shows up but the background is black.

I used my flashlight and directed the light on the subject and pressed the stationary camera shutter.
