Welcome to the Rainforest
Staying in the heartland of Danum Valley, one of the largest areas of protected lowland rainforest in Sabah. Here more than 200 species of trees have been found in one hectare - compare this with the 32 species of trees native to the whole of the UK!
Sadly, Sarawak, the Indonesian part of Borneo as well as Brunei are all loosing the conservation battle to loggers and palm oil plantation owners.
In other news a lightening strike caused the lemon tree outside of our stilt villa to crash and destroy the entrance, walkway and part of the roof. We were watching the storm from the rear balcony and remained unscathed but had to climb down the balcony as our door was impassable. A most impressive storm!
If man doesn't learn to treat the oceans and the rainforest with respect, man will become extinct.
