String Course
We have been orienteering reasonably locally this morning at Bramley Fall near Leeds. One of the excellent things about our sport (and there are several!) is that it caters for all age groups and abilities, and is family orientated. After my run I sought out one of our club families who were busy on the string course. A large length of string is run out around the area and the youngest children follow it and have to find controls on the way. The theme for this course was well known characters. This is A almost at the end of his course, having great fun running round (very fast!) and punching his mini 'map' to prove he has visited each control. His younger sister and Dad were following at a slower pace. A was glad to receive his chocolate teacake as his prize for completing the course.
At the other end of the age scale it is now some years ago that the age classes had to be extended to 90+ as more and more competitors were continuing to orienteer in this age group. We have several families in our club where children, parents and grandparents compete. Love it!
