Grand Entrance
We had a fairly easy day today. Coffee first at Nero, then home for lunch and sitting around. I gave some advice to a customer re the impending demise of XP. I think the way Microsoft is treating people is disgraceful, many people running XP machines are not IT savvy and to be bombarded by dire warnings saying your computer is unsafe. And what advice is given - upgrade to Windows 8.1 and if you can't, mainly because most XP machines are old and creaky, why not buy another computer. The reason people keep using 'old' computers is that they may not be able to afford a new machine, and are happy using their computer for email and a bit of browsing. I have calls from people thinking the end of their IT world is nigh, and just to make you feel doubly nervous is the message saying Microsoft Security Essentials will no longer protect your computer.
Two pieces of advice - install the free anti-virus program avast! and stop using Internet Explorer, use Firefox or an alternative instead.
Rant over!
