Isn't it romantic?
Yesterday, we went on a cultural expedition to -for us- unexplored grounds (Washington/Hudson Heights - Broadway/W190th St). An evening of Dominican food, a great performance of 'isn't it romantic' (which included some Jiddish jokes for which we unfortunately lacked some background knowledge) and drinks in a local bar. Since we only got home this morning by 2 am, I thought it was allowed to blip about it today ;) Here's a late night view of the Washington Bridge, in a way slightly romantic.
The title of the Blip, however, refers to yesterday's play. Set in 1983 Manhattan, it strikingly dealt with the same questions nowadays twenty/thirty-something women struggle with. Makes me wonder whether anything changed in those 30 years at all? Actually the main character voiced it perfectly, back in that year I was born:
"Do you think it's possible to be married or living with a man, have a good relationship and children that you share equal responsibility for, and a career, and still read novels, play the piano, have women friends and swim twice a week?"
- Janie Blumberg in 'Isn't it romantic?' by Wendy Wasserstein (1983)
