Like Moths To A Drain
The weather was a bit rubbish today. I togged a blackcap that had betrayed its presence by its very loud warbling song. It didn't show up very well amongst the twigs against the grey sky.
It brightened a bit after lunch so I went bug hunting. I shot a tiny spider with a froghopper in its grasp and a beautiful, tiny, turquoise planthopper.
I thought the insect above was a micro moth at first but it's a moth-fly. These are also known as sewer flies, drain flies and owl midges. They like damp places and can be a nuisance around bathrooms. I shot this on the shores of the lake. The ones we have in this country are harmless but in the tropics they are vectors of horrible diseases.
