Sticking Your Neck Out

It's fascinating to watch. With one end firmly anchored, it throws the rest of itself with fierce abandon into the unknown universe, rotating, twisting, to find a destination. Then it anchors that searching end as far away from the foot as it can stretch, efficiently slides the other end to meet it, briefly forming an omega before flinging its head out again to repeat the whole process.

Last year I think I knew what this creature was going to turn into, but I've forgotten.
