Expensively free..
The rhubard has appeared - the first of our homegrown crops this year. It causes me a child like pleasure - perhaps it takes me back to growing up on the farm - the simple task of going out and picking what you were going to eat that evening (at least we don't keep chickens...)
I habitually refer to the foods we grow as free - immediately discounting the hours of labour, the cost of plants and seeds - the work & cost that went into building the plots etc etc etc
But...it is the best food we eat. The truth is that some of the vegetables taste much better, some the same - I genuinely don't think we've had anything taste not as good as the shop bought stuff. But nothing I've ever bought has been enjoyed with the same relish as knowing that we grew these ourselves - heck it's even helped me to learn to love rhubarb and gooseberries.
