Macarooni please.....

Doris was a bit fed up yesterday (his eldest, who lives in the US, had made a two day visit home, and D was upset to see him go), so as a wee treat, I bought him some of these lovely macaroons from the patisserie which is far too near my shop.

Apparently, they're not called macaroons nowadays though - they're macarons.

I often wonder who decides to change words like that? Why do we now talk about the past 'decAde' instead of 'dEcade', as it used to be? Who first said they were off to the CarIbbean, as opposed to the CaribbEan?

I may have to eat one of these macaroons macarons fattening things whilst I worry about it all.....
