Resisting Certainty

In Resisting Certainty, Susan Goethel Campbell grows grass in discarded plastic containers, so the sod takes on the shape of the commercial packaging; her large floor installation of inverted sod reimagines the earth’s surface as if it were a patterned carpet.
Campbell’s work interprets the contemporary landscape as an emergent system where nature and the engineered environment are indistinguishable from one another. At the heart of her practice is the observation of seasonal change in both natural and artificial environments.
