St Leonard, Middleton

The rain relented to permit a visit to the historic bit of Middleton. This blip is the grade 1 listed Church of St Leonard. Playing around with my camera settings, I almost selected this view though the cemetery gate.

I went for a quick look at the nearby Old Grammar School, which I last visited over ten years ago, the history of which is here.. I also found the memorial to Samuel Bamford, the nineteenth century radical born in Middleton who was unjustly sentenced to a year in prison after the Peterloo Massacre. More on him here.

And, before I left, some industrial archeology.

By the way, is it just me or is Flickr extremely slow today?
