Livingston Village Kirk

There has been a church on the site since the 12th century. The present building was rebuilt in 1732 and is of the very simple unadorned style typical in Scotland after the Reformation. Those of you who have been to churches in Bavaria and Austria need to imagine the exact opposite of those. The inside is plain, white and the pews are wooden and uncomfortable, just as the Protestants wanted. You were not there to enjoy yourself, just to pay homage to God! It was lovely at Christmas though, the Carol Service was very moving.
