Daresbury Tower
Bright yellow flowers in the fields surely its too early for rape seed oil? anyone any idea what flowers these are?
Daresbury Tower poking up from behind the trees, the main operations were shut down the late nineties when a new bigger better SRS unit was brought on line near Didcot. It’s a grade II listed building and pilots use it as a navigational aid
Daresbury Laboratory is a scientific research laboratory near Runcorn which began operations in 1962 (I was 3 at the time) was officially opened on 16 June 1967 as the Daresbury Nuclear Physics Laboratory by the then Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Harold Wilson. It is run by the Science and Technology Facilities Council with around four hundred scientists working on the site looking into all kinds of technical things including high performance computing, sensors and detector industries.
OK this could get technical very quickly and I might be talking a load of bull as well, but in simple terms Daresbury tower used to be run for visiting scientists to conduct test using synchrontron radiation - a source that produces very intense pulses of light/X-rays, with wave lengths and intensities that allow detailed studies of objects ranging in size from human cells, through viruses down to atoms, with a precision that is not possible by other means. Advanced sources of light (like lasers and synchrotrons) have become prime factors in promoting scientific and technological progress.
It used to cost £20 million plus a year to run
I've passed it at night and the top galley is lit up inside by a lovely blue light so hoping to catch it one clear night
