Dunollie House

For more than 1000 years the Clan Chiefs and Lords of Lorn ruled parts of Argyll and the Isles from Dunollie. It is still the ancestral home of Clan MacDougall. This is the main house, but in the last couple of years a museum has opened in the 1745 house, the oldest part of the building at the back, which eventually became the kitchen quarters. From next week, the museum will be open, with woodland walks and a visit to Dunollie Castle ruins when the remedial work is finished. This part of the house is called the Admiral's House, dated approx. 1836 and is still private.

And folks I am pleased to announce there will be a shop and food! It’s within walking distance of where we are staying and if last year is anything to go by, it will be simply delicious. We met the Clan Chief at the opening, who served us herself. Oh yes, keeping good company here in Oban.
