I Love My Tree
Yesterday I blipped Cherry Blossom and Blue Sky . Today's blip is of the same tree and I was going to call it Cherry Blossom at Dusk. But as I've been sitting waiting for the image to upload I've been sitting thinking about this tree - my tree.
A couple of years ago we had a man in to look at the trees - primarily conifers that were so tall they were becoming an issue. After looking at them my Tree Man (as I like to call him) said something to the effect of "And what about this one ....". "That's my favourite tree" said I "and it's beautiful, especially when it flowers in spring". He went on to ask what was the point of having a tree in the middle of the garden that only flowers in spring and that is bent in one direction because of the wind. "Because it's beautiful and it's my favourite tree" says I. "But ....." says he. "There's no discussion to be had" says I.
The Mister and I planted this tree and it's true it is bent in a particular way because of the direction of the wind through the garden. And it's true that it blooms only for, at best, a few weeks in the year.
But let's take the year ...... In January I will watch for the buds starting to come on it. By mid to late March they will become fully formed. In April they will burst open and will change from day to day. During April they will provide delight whether the sun is shining or not and they positively glow at dusk - and have a lovely scent as well. They will last a few weeks or for as long as the wind and rain allows. When the blossom falls it will look like snow on the grass. I will be a little sad that the blossom has gone for another year but I'll start to enjoy it at its next stage. By summer the leaves will provide welcome shade to sit under on a sunny day. In autumn the leaves will turn red and gold and the colour will be superb. During winter the leaves will drop off. When it snows the branches will cradle the snow and even as the snow melts the branches will hold traces of snow for a while. Then I will start to watch again for the buds ....
I don't hurry it on - I just watch day by day and marvel at how splendid it looks each and every day.
