Ruins @ Nymans
Last Autumn Ethan helped with a student project at Nymans gardens at Handcross near to where we live in Sussex. Since then he has been desperate for us to go there so he can show me what he was doing, and give me a guided tour. The wet winter made it impossible, but now the weather is really springlike today seemed the ideal day to go.Nymans is an English garden developed by 3 generations of the Messel family. The garden was improved and reached a peak in the 1930s when it was opened to the public on a regular basis. Sadly the onset of World war ll required the number of staff to be drastically reduced and in 1947 much of the beautiful house was destroyed by a huge fire. The house was partially rebuilt, but most of it was left as a beautiful garden ruin. This ruin is beautiful, and VERY photogenic, and I simply loved taking pictures of it as you can see. I think this stunning place might get a lot more visits over the coming months, especially when the wisteria that flanks the ruined walls is in flower!
