My New Neighbour...
..or who's been eating all the snails!
For those who have been following my journal recently I have been commenting on the number of Blackbirds and empty snail shells that I have been seeing in my garden recently. Well this evening while I was looking around the garden in search of a blip I noticed a mass of grass in my pyracantha, and then I realised I was being watched from the mass of grass. It is a birds nest complete with female blackbird sat on it hunkered down in the pyracantha.
I had trimmed the bush a couple of weeks ago when I was tidying up the garden and hadn't noticed the nest, so they must have been busy workers. I quickly grabbed my camera and put the long lens on and carefully got into a position to grab some shots without disturbing the Blackbird.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops, I've had feeders, but I've never bothered with nest boxes in my garden before as there are alot of cats in the neighbourhood, and I didn't think I had anywhere safe enough for a nest box. Hopefully the pyracantha is prickly enough to keep the cats away, it certainly keeps me away. I'll keep you all posted through blip on how the brood develops.
Thanks for all the comments on my blip from my exciting day out yesterday and hello to my new subscribers. You're most welcome, and I hope you like what you see here.
