Talk to the Paw

Meet Wotsit.

This little cat was found wandering the streets of Staines looking very sorry for himself. He was brought to the practice in the hope that he was microchipped, but unfortunately he wasn't.

Wotsit is only a young cat - maybe four or five years old - but he had very bad teeth. He appears to suffer from a condition called feline gingivostomatitis, where he has a huge amount of inflammation around his mouth, associated with his teeth. In this condition, the cat's own body reacts to the teeth as if they are foreign material, creating a painful and infected mouth. The first time I saw Wotsit, he was trying to eat but his mouth was so sore that he was sitting at the back of his kennel crying and growling at his food bowl because eating hurt so much.

As we had a vacancy for a cat at home, we decided to keep him. He had an anaesthetic the next day and all but his canine teeth were removed. He immediately improved, and seems to be pretty relaxed now!!
