Grumpy Old Man

The jungle

Definitely an emergency Blip today. I'd been eyeing up a special rhododendron but by the time I got round to it the drizzle had begun, the flowers were badly lit and the sky was white! So I Blipped our grove of tree ferns, mostly Dicksonia antarctica, which come from Tasmania and SE Australia. We bought most of them in as rootless and frondless trunks, but there are doubts about the ethics of this nowadays. OK, it's fine for me to say that now we have some, but even if you buy them with a certificate attached it apparently doesn't mean that they have been ethically harvested.

This is one fern that I don't have to grow from spores - they grow themselves happily all over the area on the mossy, shady slopes just up from my house. Very soon the big ferns will be sending out their new croziers and that will definitely be a Blip!
