Bumblebee

I think this might be a Common Carder Bee but please correct me if I am mistaken. They are social bees, living in colonies of up to 200, and are widespread throughout Britain.

Bumblebees nest in cavities in hedge banks or compost heaps - even old mouse burrows. They do make a little bit of honey but only enough to see them through bad weather.

Bumblebee populations have declined massively in Britain over the past 50 years, probably because of the decline in wildflowers... My Anglesey lane was doing its bit today - in the sunny spots the air was humming. :)
