To The Beach!

I should be in the mudroom, making bowls, brie bakers, wine cups etc....but i just had to start a painting inspired by our trip to Cuba.

This is my second attempt this morning! This is how i've been starting my pastel paintings over the past while, but i wanted to try another artists technique. So, i looked at her blog, read her info, checked out a wonderful demo she did from the laying down of the under painting to the finished piece. In her under painting, she used pastels in broad strokes and then washed them down with a turpentine solution. I did that and i hated it! Too bold too soon! I have done lots of reading about this technique and even my favorite Guru man, Richard McKinley uses this technique at times. But he is also the magician of the water colour under painting. He achieves these beautifully loose and dreamy images. So i took the first one off the easel (it's only a piece of paper after all!) and started again. I'm much happier with this as my under painting. Just have to let it dry then i can begin the pastels. Here is the inspirational photograph .

Listening to a cd i got in Cuba a few years ago, they are not on Youtube, so could only findthis as an example!

I'll make pots tomorrow - and open the kiln to see if last nights firing was a success!
