THE LONG ROAD HOME

This morning we were up before sunrise and chose to explore the open veld on the Western side of the koppies. We soon lost the path and split up looking for a possible path.
At the little stream we split and D took the high road on the ridge and I took the low road closer to the stream. As the scrub is low bush and grass we could see one another. I loved wandering in this unspoilt veld with patches of sandy soil with lots of stones that I am now able to recognize as remnants of ancient river beds dating back to the time that the Karoo was a vast marsh land with dinosaurs roaming.
