Whitby

Holiday day 4
Started dull and damp and rain was possible, and didn't want a long walk, so decided to go to Whitby which we hadn't visited for more than 20 years.
It was quite quiet when we arrived so we wandered up to the abbey and as we went into the grounds we had a bit of sun which certainly helped the photos.
next St Mary's church, which is quite extraordinary, all box pews and they seem to be all over - the church must have been extended several times. There is also a 3 tiered pulpit, it needs to be high to see over all the pews and into the corners.
A bit more wandering, fish and chips for lunch and across the river for some more exploring. As we were heading back to the car the sun came out and it certainly brightened up the view.
We took a longer way back and had to stop for a while because of torrential rain, but it didn't last and the sun came out again.
