Hedge laid
This small stretch is a very basic hedge laid by T several years ago. It borders our garden and was always a problem so T always the enthusiast set his skills to laying it! He has also done a boundary hedge on the farm. Although a winter job it takes up so much time. Years ago when old A worked here, on a cold rainy day he would be out there working away but farming wasn't so pressurised then!
The pattern of the laid hedge has regional differences and also one must take into consideration whether it is sheep or cattle that are going to be enclosed, and whether the hedge is growing on a steep bank or from the ground. There are quite a few hedge laying competitions around and about and it is good to see more and more are being laid. (I can't abide how some hedges are ripped about these days)
