Wiggonholt Church

This church lies down a dead end lane midway between the villages of Pulborough and Storrington. Although there are some larger houses close by, there is no village and the church stands overlooking the river levels and the RSPB Bird Reserve of Pulborough Brooks.

Wiggonholt church, which has no known dedication consists of a single rectangular room with a small shingled bell turret at the west end. It was built in the 13th Century, but the windows visible in the picture are mostly from the 15th Century. Still in regular use, the church was thought to have been built to serve shepherds and farmworkers tending the sheep on the river levels. Inside, the interior is very rustic with an interesting stained glass window depicting Jesus walking on the water made by James Powell & Sons,
