Attention!

Another lovely day for photos and what a lovely example of the Arts and Crafts movement.

And with most city centre building always remember to look up. In this case the pediment and motif decorations are magnificent.

This is 518 Sauchiehall Street and has been the HQ and museum of the Royal Highland Fusiliers since 1960. Sadly, now absorbed into the Scottish Regiment.

The earliest part dates from 1825 and originally formed part of Albany Place,  a terrace of townhouses extending from Garnet Street to Charing Cross.

In 1903 Charles Rennie Macintosh was commissioned to design an extension to the original building, originally a photographers studio. These now form part of the museum.

The 1904 shop-front has been re-instated as have the Glasgow Style lift and stairway.

The refurbished museum was officially opened in February 1999 by George Robertson, The (then) Secretary of State for Defence, Pipe Sgt.Walker, WO2 Kerr and the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General A I Ramsay.

A magnificent building and I am ashamed to say I have never paid the museum in my home city a visit. I'll rectify this soon.
