Millennium Sampler #6

This is another section of the Millennium Sampler I completed on the 1st January 2000. These segments commemorate the Battle of Bannockburn and the Discovery of the New World.

The Battle of Bannockburn was a significant Scottish victory in the Wars of Scottish Independence. It was one of the most decisive battles of the First War of Scottish Independence, when Robert the Bruce lead his troops to defeat Edward II.

In 1492, Christopher Columbus had persuaded the Queen of Spain to fund a voyage of discovery which he said would speed up trade between Europe and China. Instead he discovered the New World of the Americas and Oceania. The rest, as they say, is history!
