Quite at home
I had a 'Glorious Gardens of Argyll & Bute' meeting in Inveraray today and nipped down afterwards to collect some more leaflets from the store at Ardkinglas House, at Cairndow on Loch Fyne. It's known to some as the setting for that lovely film starring Colin Firth - 'My Life So Far', which I would recommend to anyone. The film was located entirely on the Ardkinglas Estate and also inside the house - one of Colin Firth's lesser known films.
I've taken this picture on several occasions and I love the way that the house fits into the landscape so well that it seems a part of it. It was dull today, but even with better lighting the colours complement each other and the building seems so much at home in its setting. It was the home of Michael Noble, otherwise Lord Glenkinglas, Secretary of State for Scotland from 1962 to 1964 in the governments of Harold Macmillan and Alec Douglas-Home. Classical concerts are held there on a regular basis.
